Paul has taught me Make a new logo from scratch. It was a really interesting procedure him the way he brings the customers dream to live. He uses the requests and guidelines that the customer gives him and incorporates it into the logo. He also taught me the differences between in design, after effects, Photoshop, and adobe illustrator he went through the basics, and I learned a lot even though I only had a week in the shop.
this week started of well I'm finally at the design shop and working with Paul who is a amazing graphic designer and im helping him create this poster for bivouac who is a cider company. Paul has been showing and teaching me lots of things I’ve learned a lot about adobi illustrator and how he uses it. He also taught me how he stays on top of all of his commissions, and how he organizes that which is definitely something that I’m gonna bring to school.
I’m supper exited to jump into a new environment and step out of my comfort zone, even though ill be working with my uncle i think its still going to be challenging and very new
So far this week has been really fun, Anthony took me to an install for a business opening up in rancho Bernardo. In the top right picture the orange part of the window is the part that we rapped. The weather was really nice and sunny all day. There was about 5 windows that we had to rap and completed it in 2 hours. I completely forgot to take pictures but we also went to road runners to hang up a sign, put up some letter in the front of their building and scrape off some older vinyl.
This week is going really well I’ve been thinking about my iPOL a lot and mentally preparing for it im supper excited to showcase everything I’ve been doing this month. This week i made a card stock prototype box for June shine who is a local San Diego originated company that sells hard kombucha so what i got to do was print, cut and fold one of their prototype boxes. David, sambo and i went to Del Mar to measure their windows for some new vinyl for the company thats moving in.
This week started off well i got do do a lot of hands on activities and these are some of the things that i have worked, on the black plan flit took up most of my time just because how many there were. The black ones are a 3 page little book that i had to fold and staple, there were about 2 sets of 250 that i had to do so about 500 of them that i had to do in addition of that i also folded these off white square menus for the swan bar but those were easier because there they were only one fold and there were only a couple. We also took a trip to downtown where we layed vinyl down on the windows for this gym that was relocating.
this is a race car photo banner that we made for my uncles baby shower that was hot wheels theme, i got to trim and punch holes in the corners so that we could hang it. The banner was used for a background for photos. I didn’t it take a picture of it but we also had these three fold pan-flits that we had to make they were for a 90th birthday party I believe and we had to make like 120 of them. I also cut a sign on this thick board type material and it was really hard to cut through it took me a while to get it down.
In the shop there are a bunch of machines and sambo is teaching me all about them this week I used the vinyl laminator which laminates the big sheets of vinyl and we used it for these bar codes. This machine is probably one of the most important that we have, almost everything that comes out of the shop has to go through it because it give the vinyl that extra layer of protection that is necessary especially if the vinyl is going on a truck or somewhere outside.
This week i started off in the shop printing and cutting label bar codes into sheets for a grocery store. Sambo taught me all the components of the vinyl labeler and i can even load and label things on my own from what i learned. I helped Anthony with rapping the bill howe truck for another printing business it took the whole day to complete it. We got a shipment of shirts and shirt vinyl all we had to do was heat press them and we had homemade A7D shirts, i even got the first one.
This week Sambo showed me the vinyl printer and how he cuts everything for their customers. we were working on a commission from banana republic, they ordered menu QR code stickers for the restaurant. I also did a visit to SDSU so we could measure for the signs we have to make that they ordered, they needed concession stand posters and vinyl raps. Next week we are going to design and bring to life the idea that the customer really wants for these posters. Already this week has really inspired me and gave me an idea what their work really looks like.
